My friend started the Keep Travis Open website, if you’d like to learn more about the indiscretions of the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) over the past year, surprising many students and parents with multiple school closures, among which Travis Elementary and Horace Mann Academy are two.
So Wednesday night, as the Horace Mann Academy was renamed the Young Women’s Leadership Academy in a white rose induction ceremony at Fox Tech H.S. for selected 6th and 7th grade girls, three girls and I infiltrated to film this guerrilla protest–it looks like they had fun. Stay tuned, as Travis and Mann are shuttered, a grassroots effort is beginning to oppose San Antonio schools being privatized behind a veil of technology grants, boards of trustees, school boards and corporate influence.

Note: Keep your eye on the SAISD cameraman, who moved from the front, to the middle, and then bumped right into me while I was filming in the back. Also, the teacher in the green dress was instrumental in bringing in Officer Reyes to deal with the threat of three young women with signs.

You didn’t call us for bail money, so I guess you didn’t get thrown in jail. Keep up the good work.
